About the Meeting

When: Wednesday, June 24, 2026, 12 pm - 1 pm EST

About: Patients with high opioid tolerance present unique challenges for patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) therapy, requiring organizations to balance safety, efficacy, workflow, and clinical flexibility within smart pump drug libraries. Standard PCA limits and configurations may not adequately support these complex patient populations, increasing the risk of workarounds, delays in care, and variability in practice.

This quarter, the NIC will be joined by Courtney Olson, MSN, RN, Nurse Informaticist, and Carin Bourchard, PharmD, BCPS Clinical Pharmacist and Drug Policy Analyst from UW Health as they share their organization’s approach to redesigning the use of both PCA and continuous infusions to better meet the needs of opioid-tolerant patients. They will share the clinical considerations, interdisciplinary collaboration, governance strategies, and smart pump build decisions that informed the redesign process.

We will also review key network trends and highlights, and reserve time for a moderated Q&A with the panel.
