The Safety Sprint: Setting the Pace for Smart Infusion Pump Library Updates

By Joanne Hatfield, PharmD, BCPS on June 02, 2026

This webinar explored current trends in drug library updates, including strategies for standardization and governance, as well as best practices for integrating new medications into smart pump drug libraries. We also highlighted how real-world data from the National Infusion Collaborative can provide valuable insights to support proactive optimization and informed decision-making.

The rate at which new intravenous medications enter the market continues to accelerate, introducing both exciting clinical advancements and increasing complexity for smart pump drug library development. Maintaining an accurate and effective drug library is not a one-time effort, it requires continuous oversight, structured processes, and ongoing diligence.

This 30-minute session shared data and experiences from a broad network of hospitals, including:

  • Frequency of drug library updates

  • Types and volume of changes made within drug libraries

  • Practical applications of National Infusion Collaborative data to support drug library development and maintenance
