This fall's unprecedented hurricane damage led to a nationwide shortage of large-volume intravenous (IV) fluids.

Several mitigation strategies have been suggested to conserve IV fluids and lessen the burden of this shortage. As health systems navigate which mitigation strategies to implement, Baptist Health will share how they have successfully reduced their overall IV fluid utilization by more than 40%.

Sanchita Damania, PharmD, Director of Medication Safety and Regulatory, and Gregory Fakelmann, PharmD, System Director, Pharmacy Clinical Services from Baptist Health in Louisville, KY, will join us this quarter to share how they took action in various ways to manage resources and modify clinical practices to help scale and conserve scarce IV fluids.

Agenda:

  • Sanchita and Gregory will share their tactics and strategies to reduce their overall IV fluid utilization
  • The NIC will share mitigation strategies and IV fluid trends across the network
